Mission Statement: To promote music education by providing a setting that allows deserving students
the opportunity to perform quality literature with outstanding clinicians.
I. PARTICIPATION
A. Participation is limited to schools within the Five State Area to include the states of Colorado, Kansas, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas.
B. Grade levels of participating students will be as follows:
1. The Five State High School Band will be comprised of students in grades nine (9) through twelve (12).
2. The Five State Junior High Band will be comprised of students in grades seven (7) and eight (8), and can include
deserving students in grade six (6) providing that the students compete in their Junior High or High School bands.
C. Participating students must be in compliance with all rules and regulations governing the eligibility of students from their respective states.
II. AUDITIONS AND PARTICIPATION FEES
A. The audition fee for the Five State Honor Band is $8.00 for each student participating.
1. The audition fee is due on or before the day of the audition.
2. Directors are required to pay for every student listed on their entry form.
3. All entry forms are due 8 days before the audition.
4. The audition fee is non-refundable, and will be forfeited by those students who enter but do not audition.
5. Proceeds from the collection of these fees will be utilized in a manner that perpetuates the Five State Honor Band.
B. The participation fee for the Five State Honor Band is $13.00 for each student that earns a chair in either band by the audition process. This fee includes
two slices of pizza and a bottle of water.
1. The participation fee is due on or before the day of the clinic/concert.
2. The participation fees are non-refundable, and will be paid and forfeited by those students who are selected but do not participate.
3. Schools are responsible for only those students who are seated in the the bands the day of the
audition, not those students who are named as alternates.
III. AUDITIONS
A. All Directors from each participating school must be present to judge the audition process.
1. If a director cannot be present, it is that schools responsibility to provide an acceptable substitute.
2. Each school should provide one (1) sponsor to serve as monitors for the audition process.
B. Auditions will be conducted in the manner designated by the organizer.
1. There must be a minimum of two (2) judges on every panel.
2. All results will be final twenty-four (24) hours after the conclusion of the auditions.
C. Students must be present at the auditions. No taped auditions will be accepted.
D. Students are allowed to audition on a maximum of 2 (two) instruments with the exception of percussion.
1. Percussion students can audition on snare, mallets, and timpani.
a. Entry forms must indicate all instruments on which a student will be auditioning.
b. These entry forms must indicate the student’s order of preference
for all instruments auditioned for to assist in the seating of the band.
2. Audition fees will be charged for every instrument on which the student
Auditions (1-$8.00, 2-$10.00. 3-$15.00).
E. Audition material may be played with the music, memorization is not required
F. All audition materials are the responsibility of the organizer to distribute in
an appropriate time frame relative to the audition.
G. All auditioning students must be entered on the appropriate form or web-
site prior to the beginning of the auditions.
1. The organizer will set an appropriate due date for all entries to be post-marked.
a. Entries must be mailed or received by this due date but can be
revised the day of the audition.
b. Entry fees can be mailed with the entry but are due the day of the audition.
2. Directors must submit their entries typed or computer generated.
Hand written entries will not be accepted.
a. These entries, not the forms used the day of the audition, will be
used to determine the correct spelling of student’s names for use
in the program and other subsequent items.
b. It is the responsibility of the directors to ensure that all information on
the entry forms is correct.
H. The size and instrumentation of the Five State Honor Band will be the same
for both the High School and Junior High bands, and is as follow:

IV. CLINIC / CONCERT
A. The organizer will be responsible for securing clinicians for the Clinic/Concert.
1. The organizer will utilize the participating director’s to compile a list of acceptable candidates.
2. In the event that a clinician cannot meet their commitment, the organizer can substitute a qualified clinician
without the approval of the participating directors
B. The organizer will assist the clinicians in the selection of acceptable literature for each ensemble.
C. Participating students must be present at all rehearsals or they will forfeit their chair and participation fee
D. Any materials necessary for the proper performances of the Five State Honor Band Concert is the responsibility of the
organizer to secure and to provide. This includes the creation, printing, distribution of an appropriate program.
E. The organizer will serve as the Master of Ceremonies for the concert.
V. ORGANIZER
A. The organizer shall be elected by majority vote of all representatives directors for each participating school.
